Substance Abuse & Addiction

Are you growing uncomfortable with the impact substances are having on your life?  Are you family or friends concerned about how much you are using? Let's work together to renegotiate that relationship: so it works for you, and not against you.

Let's get real

Most adults have some kind of relationship with substances and some time in their lives. It is all too easy for these casual relationships to take a wrong turn, especially if there are other parts of our lives that we are unhappy about.

As a harm reductionist, I am not here to moralize or shame you for your substance use: I am here to help you find a balance that will let you live your values and feel comfortable with your relationship with the substances at the same time. Sometimes, long term abstinence is a key part of this: many times, it is not.  Frequently, the substance use is just one piece of the puzzle: the impact of mental health on substance use cannot be understated.

Are you ready?

In counseling, I will lead with curiosity - where are you coming from? What led you to be in this situation today?  What are you getting or trying to get out of your substance use? As we proceed, I will introduce you to a variety of harm reduction and relapse prevention strategies to support you in figuring out what your next steps are, integrating mental health focus as necessary. Together, we can build new skills and practices that will support you moving forward towards the self you want to be.
